It’s You, and You Only

Yet another apology to God for falling short.

***

This weak earthen vessel has once again failed
The cracks in the clay have broken asunder
I’ve abandoned the cross on which He was nailed
I’ve taken His gift and selfishly plundered

I have made light of the Almighty’s power
And taken for granted the light that He brings
And I fall away like a withering flower
If the soil I dig into is earthly things

Lord, I recognize my sin and my shame
I have been evil since the day I was born
But Your love and forgiveness are my one true name
It’s You, and You only, I wish to adorn

Alone, I am nothing – a meek-minded fool
A scared little boy eating loaves behind trees
But through Christ I’m made whole, a heavenly tool
To help bring forth Your kingdom, so that sinners might see

Your love and Your grace and the joy that it brings
The purity and peace and the way that it feels
Your gifts and Your wisdom, I want to stand and sing
But I’m brought down before You, grateful as I kneel

Lord, I recognize my sin and my shame
I have been evil since the day I was born
But Your love and forgiveness are my one true name
It’s You, and You only, I wish to adorn
